Abstract
1,260,904. Resilient seat mountings. GEORG FRITZMEIER K. G. May 22, 1969 [May 22, 1968], No. 26131/69. Headings A4J and A4U. A seat shell, e.g. for a motor vehicle, in which the spring suspension resistance is varied to suit the weight of the user is guided by a parallelogram linkage positioned at the side of or directly below the seat and having a lever 10 formed as a housing 10a, 10b for parallel rods 20, 21, forming an inner lever 11, and links 13, 14 each having one end mounted in a bearing bush 12 at each end of the housing and rotationally fast with a seat holder 23 and a fixed bracket 24, respectively. Each of the links 13, 14 has two parallel arms 17, 18 which are pivotally connected by the rods 20, 21 on each side of a pressure cylinder 26 which has an edge 33 displaceably supported on a web surface 34 of the link 14. The cylinder has a ball head 37 pivotally mounted in the housing and is urged upwardly, to raise the point of contact between the edge and the web towards the pivot axis of the link 14, by a leafspring 46 one end of which is fastened to the pressure cylinder and the other end of which slides on the rods 20, 21. The effect of the spring is overcome by a cam 40 which is operable by a spring- loaded knob 43 engaging apertures 45 in a plate on the housing for step-by-step adjustment of the edge 33 along the web surface 34, the position of maximum resilient support for a heavy user being as shown in Fig.3. The seat shell is movable in the direction opposite to the direction of loading to a raised position to accommodate a standing operator, the surface 34 being moved away from the edge 33 to a position 47 in which it is locked by engagement of a nose 46a on the spring in a notch 48 in the rod 21. The angular position of the link 14 and hence the height of the seat is adjusted by elongation of the pressure cylinder 26 by rotation of an adjusting wheel 31 to rotate a screwthreaded portion of the ball head 27 in a threaded portion of the piston rod 26a during which adjustment the distance of the edge 33 from the pivot axis of the link 14 and hence the weight resistance of the seat remains substantially unchanged. In modifications, the cam 40 is replaced by an adjusting screw having a transverse end piece in sliding contact with the cylinder wall, or, for use with a seat shell guided at its rear by rollers in an upright guide and supported on its underside on a guide rocker. The rear end of the rocker is supported in a stationary housing on a link corresponding to the link 14, the link 13 and the inner lever being dispensed with and the free end of the spring sliding on the inner surface of the housing. A screw 66 on the housing is lockable in adjusted position along a slot in a base-plate for adjustment of the seat therealong and, if the plate is curved, adjustment of the inclination of the housing.
