Abstract
1,260,806. Optical resolution of d,l-lysine. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 12 May, 1970 [19 May, 1969], No. 22772/70. Heading C2C. d,l-lysine is optically resolved from its stereoisomers into d-lysine and l-lysine by adding an optically active form of 5-oxo-2-pyrrolidine carboxylic acid or the ammonium salt thereof. The process is suitably carried out in a solvent selected from water and an organic solvent having an affinity for water such as a (C 1 -C 4 ) aliphatic alcohol or ketone or a mixture thereof. The l-lysine may be separated from the reaction product by means of an ion-exchange resin, and is then preferably reacted with HCl to form the mono-hydrochloride salt which is then dried, dissolved in an aqueous alcohol and concentrated to form crystals.
