Abstract

1,260,689. Cooling electrical apparatus. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 10 June, 1969 [11 June, 1968], No. 29319/69. Heading F4U. [Also in Division H1] Semi-conductor devices such as controlled or non-controlled rectifiers arranged about a shaft are provided with combined air and liquid cooling in which air is forced down an air channel within the shaft by means of a fan and passes through a heat exchanger which cools the cooling liquid, part of the air flow being directed back along the duct formed between the air channel and the shaft. As shown, semi-conductor rectifiers 1 are mounted round the wall of a shaft 2 within which is located an air channel 3 through which air is forced by means of a fan 4. The devices are cooled by a closed circuit liquid flow in which oil is pumped through a heat exchanger 8 and distributed via pipes 14 to the devices from which it returns along pipes 15 to pump 11. The heat exchanger is mounted at the lower end of the air channel 3 so that the air flow cools the oil. Due to the air resistance of the heat exchanger 8 an overpressure is produced in the channel 3 which causes some of the air to flow up the annular duct 6 to provide additional cooling for the semi-conductor devices which have fins 9 projecting into the duct.
