Abstract

1,260,335. Electrophotographic element. MINNESOTA MINING & MFG., CO. 19 May, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 25478/69. Heading H1K. In a process for preparing a photoconductive copy sheet by coating a support with a composition containing 0À1 to 6 parts by weight TiO 2 and 1 part polymeric binder, up to 13.10<SP>-6</SP> equivalents per square metre of total photoconductor particle surface of a fatty acid or salt thereof is included in the composition. The fatty acid has at least 6 C atoms and the binder is otherwise free of emulsifying agents and has an acid number below 70. In the specific embodiment an aluminized polyethylene terephthalate sheet is coated with a composition containing TiO 2 , zinc rosinate and chlorinated polyethylene. The fatty acid may be stearic, oleic, cerotic, caproic, sorbic, #-glycyrrhetinic, linoleic, abietic or dehydroabietic or the salt formed with Ga, Al, NH 4 , alkali metals or alkaline earth metals. The binder may be a homopolymer of styrene or copolymer with butadiene, n-butyl acrylate or isoprene, a polyacrylate or methacrylate, polyvinylidene chloride, polyethylene triphenylphosphine or a poly 4-methyl pentene.
