Abstract

1,260,293. Reciprocating pumps and motors. JOSEPH LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 6, 1969 [March 15, 1968], No. 12650/68. Heading F1A. An axial piston pump or motor comprises a rotary cylinder block 24 spring-loaded against a ported member 40 and having pistons 21 universally jointed to members 20 mounted in a rotary member 5 coupled to drive-shaft 17, ported member 40 being angularly adjustable in housing part 11 to adjust the valve timing, and housing part 11 being angularly adjustable relative to housing part 10 to adjust the piston stroke. Housing part 11 is adjustable such that the axis about which ported member 40 is adjustable occupies positions intersecting a circle, the centre of which is offset from the axis about which member 5 rotates. After their respective adjustments, member 40 is secured by screws 50, and housing part 11 by studs 12 and nuts 13. Ported member 40 has kidney ports 44, 45 communicating respectively with housing ports 48, 49. Piston forces on member 5 are opposed by applying the working pressure to a chamber 27 formed between each member 20 and a fixed member 29, chamber 27 being connected to a respective cylinder 23 via passages 25, 26. Coupling 37 between member 5 and block 24 includes flattened pins 38 engaging slots 32, 34.
