Abstract

1,260,231. Spray producers. DIAMOND INTERNATIONAL CORP. 16 April, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 19352/69. Heading B2F. In an aerosol dispenser a valve assembly comprises a valve housing 18 adapted for sealing disposition within the outlet of a product container 10 and having a circular opening therethrough, and a firrst annular valve seat 44 formed within said valve housing at one end of the circular opening and concentric therewith, means being provided for closing the other end of the circular opening, the valve housing being formed with a vent 48, separate from the circular opening and extending through the valve housing at one side of the circular opening, one end of said vent opening into said first annular valve seat, the valve assembly further comprising a resiliently flexible product discharge valve 32 of flat annular configuration, seated against the first annular valve seat and covering said one end of said vent, and a discharge head 26 movable axially within the circular opening to and beyond a first operative position and including an abutment 46 located between the radially inner and outer peripheries of the resiliently flexible product discharge valve whereby, when the discharge head is depressed axially towards said other end of the circular opening into its first operative position, the abutment depresses a radially inner portion of the valve, thereby rocking the remainder of the valve about a radially inner periphery of the first annular valve seat to uncover said one end of said vent. A second annular valve seat 52 may be formed within the valve housing axially nearer said other end of the circular opening, the discharge head further including a flange 40 overlying a radially outer portion of the product discharge valve whereby when the discharge head is depressed to a second operative position the abutment 46 presses the inner portion of the product discharge valve into sealing engagement with the second annular valve seat while the flange presses the outer portion into sealing engagement with the first annular valve seat, thus sealing product delivery port 39 and vent 48 and allowing the propellant cartridge 22 to be recharged.
