A door unit for an electric cooker having a device for automatic cleaning comprises an observation aperture 7<SP>1</SP> covered with glass and a heat-resistant shield characterized by a plurality of lattice-like laminated plates 10, 11 disposed one behind the other and displaceable into two positions, one wherein they obstruct the view through the observation aperture, as illustrated, and the other wherein they expose the view through the aperture, Fig.4 (not shown). The laminated plates 10, 11 each have a series of apertures 20 interspaced by lattice bars 21 and a control slot 15 with upper and lower stop ends (14) and 14<SP>1</SP>, and are held in a pair of brackets 12 each of which acts on a respective drive pin 16. A stop pin 9 is provided in the control slots 15 which is attached to a bracket 8 held on an outer wall 4 of the door unit. The brackets 12 are articulated to a bridge (17) which is downwardly displaced by a locking pin (2), Fig. 1 (not shown), thus causing the brackets 12 to move up until the lower stop ends 14<SP>1</SP> abut the stop pin 9, relocking the oven door automatically causes the shielding to obstruct the view through the observation aperture. Springs (13), Fig. 1 (not shown), pull the brackets 12 down, when the door is not locked, so that the upper stop ends (14) of the control slots 15 abut the stop pin 9, thus exposing the view through the observation aperture, Fig.4 (not shown).
