A hip cup 3 for use with a femoral head prosthesis 1 has a continuous internal bearing surface, consisting of more than half of a sphere. The cup is preferably made of high density polyethylene or other flexible material. The lip 4 preferably extends about “ inch beyond the equatorial plane 5 of the cup. The outer surface of the cup is grooved to receive cement.
