Abstract

1302834 Prosthetic hip cup D HOWSE & CO Ltd 9 Sept 1971 42169/71 Addition to 1260046 Heading A5R A hip cup for use with a femoral head prosthesis comprises a cup made from a flexible material and which has a continuous internal bearing surface comprising a part of a sphere greater than a hemisphere, wherein the entire external surface 4 of the cup is smooth and part spherical. The rim 2 of the cup lies in a plane parallel to an equational plane 3 of the sphere and about “" distant from said plane, the angles α, α, being 220‹ and 210‹ respectively. The head 5 and base 6 of the prosthesis are tilted at an angle of 15‹ to 21‹ to the shoulder 7 of the prosthesis stem (Figure 2 not shown). This brings the rim of the cup into contact with the base 6 at a point (E) in the base, thus preventing the cup from moving too far in an anti-clockwise direction. The cup may be made of high density polyethylene.
