Abstract

1460813 Hip-joint prosthesis SULZER BROS Ltd 19 March 1974 [24 March 1973] 12159/74 Heading A5R An artificial hip-joint comprises a femoral implant having a stem portion 6, a neck portion 7 and a femoral condyle 8, a socket member 9 to receive the femoral condyle 8, and an acetabular socket 3 with a flange 11. As shown, the acetabular socket, made of a bio-compatible plastics or a metal, has circumferentially and symmetrically placed claws 13 lying in a hemi spherical surface of about 50 mm diameter, and may also be provided with symmetrically spaced ribs 15, the latter preferably having beads 16 on their inner surfaces along their lengths. The claws are between 20-25 mm. long, and the flange 11 having holes 14 has a width of between 8 and 12 mm. The socket 3 may only have ribs with beads (Figs. 6-9 not shown) and the edges of the ribs may be provided with corrugations (18, Fig. 10 not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown) an auxiliary circular rib (17) is provided at mid-length of the ribs 15.
