Abstract

1,259,917. Corner joints for frames. T. K. P. SCHENNING. 20 March, 1970 [21 March, 1969], No. 13669/70. Heading E1J. A corner joint is formed in a hollow metal window or door frame by inserting a corner angle piece 6 in the ends of frame members 2 and 4, the angle piece having transverse V- shaped notches 10 on the outer surface of each arm, and by forming V-shaped depressions 14 in the frame member walls to engage in the notches 10, at least the side face of each depression 14 further from the corner being inclined at the same angle as the corresponding notch side face 12, and the point of pressing of each depression 14 being displaced slightly relative to the notch 10 away from the corner. The pressing operation is carried out using a jig comprising a rectangular abutment, against which the inner surface of the assembled frame corner rests, and punches 16 arranged to press all the depressions 14 simultaneously and having their axes displaced from the axes 18 of the notches 10 by a distance x=1 to 2 mm. The pressure of the depression 14 on the notch side face 12 tends to shift the angle piece slightly further into the frame members 2 and 4, i.e. the mitred ends of the frame members are forced firmly together.
