Abstract
1,259,270. Attaching sliders to slide fastener chain. M. PERLMAN. 12 Nov., 1970 [18 Feb., 1970], No. 53954/70. Heading E2S. Slide fastener chain C comprises parallel stringers 1, 2, having beaded edges 1a, 2a and carrying rows of engaged elements 3 alternating with short element-free sections 4. In attaching a slider 7 to each section, the chain is periodically pulled by means P so as to align successive gaps at assembly station A A spreader member 6 is then lowered through the gap, widening it to receive a slider. A slider resting in nest (71) Fig. 11 (not shown) of elevator means E is raised through the gap and remains in the nest while movement of the chain is resumed. Stationary means are located above the nest to urge the beaded edges into slider channels 7a and engage the slider on the chain. The spreader is then raised, the elevator lowered and the slider moves on with the chain. Bottom stops 5 terminating each section are detected by sensing means 36 to stop the next gap at the assembly station. In its lower position the slider nest is aligned with chute 72, down which sliders are fed from hopper H. The lowermost slider is yieldably held adjacent the nest and can be pushed into the nest by a slide (77) Fig. 4 (not shown) mounted on the chute. While in the nest means may be engaged to unlock any lock sliders before they are attached to the chain, and sensing means can stop the cycle of operations if the elevator is raised without a slider having been inserted in the nest.
