Abstract
1,258,886. Ammonium N-acetyl-α-aminophenylacetate. TANABE SEIYAKU CO. Ltd. 26 March, 1970 [28 March, 1969; 24 May, 1969; 10 Sept., 1969], No. 14977/70. Heading C2C. The invention comprises ammonium N-acetyl- DL-, D- and L-α-aminophenylacetate. The DL form is prepared by subjecting DL-α-aminophenylacetic acid to acetylation in an alkaline solution and neutralizing the product with ammonia. Ammonium N-acetyl-DL-α-aminophenylacetate is resolved by preparing a supersaturated solution thereof in an inert solvent therefor in which one of the enantiomers predominates in solution or is present as a seeding, allowing crystallization of the predominant enantiomers to take place and recovering the separated crystals. Optically active α-amino phenylacetic acid is prepared by deacetylating an optically active isomer of ammonium N- acetyl-α-aminophenyl acetate by treatment with an acid.
