Heading C2C. 2,6-Dimethylphenol is isomerized by heating with Al 2 O 3 in the gas phase or liquid phase at a temperature of from 250‹ to 400‹ C. In the example, 2,6-dimethylphenol is isomerized to form 2,3-dimethylphenol; 2,4-dimethylphenol; 2,5-dimethylphenol; 2,3,5-trimethylphenol; and 2,3,6-trimethylphenol.
