Abstract
1,258,721. Barbecue thermostat. WOLFGERATE G.m.b.H. Jan. 14, 1970 [Jan. 21, 1969; Feb. 11, 1969], No.1841/70. Heading A4D. A charcoal fired barbecue has a charcoal container 1 on one side of the spit 2 and a heat reflecting screen 3 on the other side which varies the heat supplied to the food item 16 by its angular setting. Coarse setting is obtained manually by slackening the handle 6 which unclamps the holder 9 from the bearing 4 see Fig. 3 (not shown) and allows angular adjustment of the whole reflector unit which is then reclamped in the desired position. Fine adjustment occurs automatically by means of the spiral bi-metallic strip 7 whose outer end is fixed to the reflector and whose inner end is fixed to the bearing pin (11). The range of fine adjustment is limited by the holder 9 see Fig. 4 (not shown). Increase of temperature causes the bi-metallic strip to move the reflector away from the heat source and vice versa. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown) a barbecue has a cover (31) with an opening in the top (32). The opening is restricted by a lid (36) which moves in response to a spiral bi-metallic strip (33) which is opposed by a spring (38) whose compression is set by a nut (39) thus in operation as the temperature under the cover builds up the lid opens to ventilate the hot gas thus maintaining an even temperature.
