Abstract

1,258,623. Dyes of the 2-halo-4-nitro-2<SP>1</SP>- acylamino - 4<SP>1</SP> - dialkylamino - 1,1<SP>1</SP> - azobenzene series. SANDOZ Ltd. 9 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968], No. 18210/69. Heading C4P. Novel dyestuffs of the formula .(where X is Cl or Br; and R 1 is benzylcarbonyl or phenoxyacetyl which may bear non-watersolubilizing substituents) are prepared by coupling of the diazotized 2-halo-4-nitro-aniline with the appropriate 3-formamido-N-substituted-aniline or by acylation of corresponding dyestuffs containing OH in place of OR 1 (themselves prepared by coupling) with the acid R 1 OH or a derivative thereof. The dyestuffs are particularly suitable for dyeing fibres consisting of hydrophobic organic substances of high molecular weight and materials made of these fibres. The dyeings obtained are of red shades.
