Abstract
1,258,375. Arc rupturing in switches. R. S. KUZNETSOV, A. G. USKACH, and V. G. KOSTIKOV. 7 Feb., 1970, No. 5983/70. Heading H1N. An arc quenching chamber comprises pairs of metal plates 1, having an S-shape, joined together in parallel planes by a conductive neck portion. Insulation 3 is provided between the plates which are preferably of a ferromagnetic material to facilitate the transfer of the minor arcs across the air gaps 12, 13. Each pair of plates is joined together e.g. by welding, at projections formed from their central portion 11. The plates 1 and the insulation barriers 3 are attached to the shields 4 of the arc quenching chamber, a projection (6) of the plate projecting into the shield spacing. This projection may be omitted as in Fig. 6 (not shown). The plates may be bent in opposite directions, Fig. 5 (not shown), so as to augment the blow out magnetic field.
