Abstract

[Also in Division C7] An anisotropic magnetic film for a memory device is made by electroplating on to a relatively coarse grained conductive substrate a fine grain magnetic smoothing film between 50 and 200 Š thick consisting of 99À5-92% Ni and 0À5-8%P, then a main magnetic film on the smoothing film at least three times as thick. The substrate may be of polished metal e.g. wire or of glass or polyester resin on which a conduction layer is deposited by sputtering or evaporation. A series of magnetic smoothing, main magnetic and conductive layers may be applied repeatedly to build up a closed or open flux sandwich structure.
