Abstract
1,258,134. Electron guns. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 12 Feb., 1969 [17 Feb., 1968], No. 7658/69. Heading H1D. An electron gun for a television picture tube comprises a Wehnelt cylinder 1 across which extends an insulator disc 2 which supports a cathode heating ribbon strung across a diameter of the disc. In Fig. 1 the disc 2 is provided with an annular projection 20 across which extends a cathode heating ribbon (not shown in Fig. 1) supporting a cathode 10 and held in tension in grooves in the projection 20 by means of two quadrantal springs 6 secured to the disc by respective eyelets 4. The cathode 10 is preferably a sintered pellet of nickel powder impregnated with electron emissive material. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the annular projection 20 is omitted and the heating ribbon is supported by L-shaped springs. In a further arrangement, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) the heating ribbon is itself of springy material with its ends secured in the eyelets 4 so that it is bowed away from the disc 2.
