Abstract

1,257,886. Centrifugal separators. PFEIFFER BARBAROSSAWERKE A.G. GEB. 23 July, 1970 [24 July, 1969], No. 35648/70. Heading B2P. A centrifugal air separator for grading granular material according to size, Figs. 1 and 2, comprises a horizontal cylindrical separating chamber having an inlet 4 for separating air in its peripheral cylindrical wall and an inlet 3 for the material to be graded in its top surface adjacent such wall, and having mounted therein spaced concentric rings 5, 6, 7 of spiral-flow producing vanes 5', 6', 7', outlets 8, 9, 10 being provided downstream of each ring of vanes for separated grades of material. Very fine grains of material may leave with the air through an outlet 11 which may be connected to a filter. The vanes may be fixed or angularly adjustable. Additional fresh air may be fed into the chamber through an inlet upstream of one of the vane rings or within the sweep of a vane ring, Fig. 3 (not shown); such air may also be fed adjacent the ceiling or floor of the chamber. In Fig. 5, the depth of the chamber may be increased in the direction of air flow in the successive areas separated by the rings of vanes. Fresh air may be supplied in the region of the ceiling or floor of the chamber or in both regions as at 16 and 17.
