Abstract
1,257,675. Igniting burners. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. 13 Feb., 1969 [14 March, 1968], No. 7817/69. Heading F4F. A rod 23 having a spark ignition flag electrode 24 is fixed in a casing 21 rotatably mounted in a cover plate 17 of a burner box 15 in an oven wall W, adjacent a tubular burner B having a longitudinally extending burner port, Fig. 5, (not shown), and a handle 26 on the end of casing 21 remote from the electrode is used to move the rod manually between a first limiting position wherein the charge transmitting edge 24a of the flag is separated from the burner port, and a second limiting position in which the edge 24 touches the burner port and scrapes graphite deposits from the ribbons or grill forming the port. The end 26c of the handle 26 moves freely along the shank of a bolt (31) threaded in an angle member 28 secured to the plate 17, against the action of a spring (33) and between a washer adjacent the bolt head and the member 28, thus defining the first and second limiting positions respectively. With the electrical power turned on, the electrode is brought into contact with the burner port to give a short circuit, and subsequent release of arm 26 causes it to return rapidly to its first position and give a spark between the electrode and burner port. The electrode assembly is removable from the oven by disconnecting member 28 from plate 17 and disengaging casing 21 from the open end of a yoke Y secured on the burner case 10 and normally holding the electrode assembly in position. A peep hole 35, 36, 37, is provided.
