Abstract
592,657. Portable electric igniters. JONES, L. H. HOWARD-. Oct. 30, 1945, No. 28816. [Class 75 (iii)] In an electric igniter having a wick 12 and a resistance wire 15, the wick and the wire are surrounded by a cowl 21, open at the top and provided with an air inlet 21A at the side of the wick remote from the wire. The cowl 21 may be mounted on the top 4 of a cylinder 3 which is a sliding fit in a casing 1, a fuel chamber 5 and an insulating block 6 which may be provided with a filler opening 28 being connected to this top 4 by screws 8. One end of the resistance wire 15 may be connected through a rod 13 and wire 16 with a contact strip 13A and a battery 2 while the other end may be connected with a contact 15A. A spring metal strip 18 may be connected to the chamber 5 and have an end 20 adapted to project through an opening in the casing 1 and engage an indent 23 in a cover 22 in the closed position, a push button 19 being provided, which when depressed causes the strip 18 to engage the contact 15A and close the resistance wire circuit, and also releases the spring-pressed lid which is provided with a hinge 24 accommodated in a recess 27 in the cylinder 3. The air inlet of the cowl may be a grille 21A formed of horizontally spaced bars, or the cowl may be completely open on this side.
