Abstract

1,257,372. Cold separation of gas mixtures BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 15 May, 1969 [16 May, 1968], No. 24767/69 Heading F4P. A carbon-dioxide and water-free gas mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, ethylene, acetylene and higher hydrocarbons obtained by thermal cracking of hydrocarbons followed by quenching is separated into a first product comprising a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methane and into a second product comprising gaseous ethylene and acetylene by cooling the compressed feed gas mixture in a line 1 at heat exchanges 2, 5 thereby partly condensing the feed without solidification of acetylene, withdrawing the condensate from separators 3, 6 passing it through a line 15 to a rectification column 26, withdrawing gaseous ethylene and acetylene at 30 as said second product, withdrawing at 26 a portion of liquid bottoms containing C 3 hydrocarbons and passing the liquid through a line 9 to serve as scrubbing liquid in a column 8 to which uncondensed feed gas is passed through a line 7 and withdrawing at 10 scrubbed gas as the first desired product. The withdrawn scrubbed gas is expanded at a turbine 11 and used in heat exchanged 13, 14 to cool the descending scrubbing liquid and this liquid containing dissolved ethylene and acetylene is added to the condensate passing to column 20 reflux for which is provided by an ammonia cooled condenser. 29.
