Abstract
1,257,336. Reaction containers. XEROX CORP. 19 Dec., 1968 [26 Dec., 1967], No. 60369/68. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B1] A disposable plastics reaction container 50 has a lower section 52 of two separate lower compartments 62 and 64 and an upper storage section 54 having a plurality of storage chambers 56, 58 &c. Each storage chamber is formed integrally with at least one hollow, concentric, flexible finger 16 extending from the top of the chamber to just below the plane of flange 12, which has a rib or ribs 20 to support and secure an annular tablet 22. In use, a probe 24 of slightly greater diameter than the finger is inserted into the hollow 28, thus causing the tablet to expand and fracture and drop into the container. Flanges 82 and 96 which encircle upper and lower sections respectively are of the same size and dimensions so enabling the two sections to be heat sealed together. A portion of the flange perimeter is of sufficient width to carry a code area. The walls of the container may be rigid or flexible, and to enable optical analysis of samples injected into the container to be performed, at least one opposite pair of walls are preferably transparent. In further embodiments, each hollow finger has longitudinal ribs, Fig. 8 (not shown), or portions of different diameters, Fig. 9 (not shown), so as to hold tablets of varying size.
