Abstract

1,257,276. Control of A.C. motors. SIEMENS A.G. 3 Sept., 1970 [5 Sept., 1969], No.42321/70. Heading H2J. When a brushless synchronous machine is started, the alternating voltage induced in field winding 1 partially charges a capacitor 7 which is in series with a diode 16 and resistors 14, 15. Before the critical value of the slip is reached, the capacitor 7 is discharged through thyristor 17 each time the charging voltage reaches a maximum value and causes the breakdown of a Zener diode 18. A firing pulse for a thyristor 6 is provided when the machine reaches the critical slip. The capacitor 7 then. activates a Shockley diode 8 before the charging voltage reaches its maximum, so energizing the primary winding of a transformer 9. The thyristor 6 is thus triggered and applies directcurrent to the field winding 1 to pull the machine into step. The field winding is shunted by a resistor 19. and over-voltage protector 5. The resistors 14, 15 may each comprise a number of individual elements, Fig. 2 (not shown).
