Abstract

125,672. Hinchley, J. W. July 5, 1917. Peat, preparing.- In an extrusion press for expelling liquid from peat, lead paste, clay, &c. the material during its passage to the extrusion outlets is caused to pass over surfaces formed of rigid compact porous filtering medium such as porous pottery. The outlet nozzles 4, which are provided with interchangeable dies 10 to vary the size of the outlet opening may be fitted with a conical lining 7 of porous pottery, at the back of which are grooves 5 for the escape of liquid. The sides of the compressed chamber, preferably the parts which are not traversed by the piston, may also be formed with filtering-linings of porous pottery or, in this case, of wire gauze. The end of the compression chamber may be fitted with a plate 28, Fig. 12, of porous pottery having openings 29 leading to outlet orifices 30. The material during treatment may be heated by devices heated internally by steam and placed in front of or inside the outlet nozzles, or by a hollow steamheated plate having openings leading to the outlet orifices.
