Abstract

114,002. Hutchins, T. W. S. March 8, 1917. Extrusion presses. - Relates to extrusion presses for compressing granular &c. materials or for extracting water from peat &c., and consists in the employment of duplex rams a, b adapted to impart both a longitudinal and transverse pressure to the material. The ram a is arranged within the ram b which is operated through a toggle g, h, actuated by a crank k, the ram a being connected through a toggle o, p to a slide n connected by a rod m to the ram b. Material passes from a hopper e through a port f to the cylinder c and is compressed by the advance of both rams by the toggle g, h. The toggle o, p is then operated by an eccentric q causing the ram a to penetrate the material and impose a lateral pressure. The compressed material passes through a nozzle d. The cylinder c may be provided with perforations preferably chamfered outwards, or with a heating-jacket. In a modification, both rams are of smaller diameter than the cylinder. The ram a may have a tapered or conical nose.
