Abstract

1,256,545. Gyroscopic top. TOMY KOGYO CO. Ltd. 18 Nov., 1969 [22 Nov., 1968], No. 56409/69. Heading A6S. A gyroscopic top comprises a hollow body Aa, having a symmetrical configuration about the central axis; an electric motor 2, housed in the cylindrical casing 1, having an output shaft 5 and two dry batteries 7, mounted in the semi-cylindrical housings 3, which are connected to the motor. A flywheel 6 is fixed to the output shaft. The output shaft also extends outside of the hollow body through the cylindrical projection 8, and a pinion 9 is fixed to it. A detachable cap 10 is provided to cover this extension. The motor is actuated by a switch in the base of the top. When the cap 10 is removed, the top may be attached to a toy vehicle, so that the pinion 9 meshes with gears that transmit the power of the motor to the wheels of the vehicle. The top may also be used with other accessories including an annular track round which the top runs (Fig. 16, not shown), various supports on which the top balances and a framework from which the top hangs on a chain and makes a conical movement (Fig. 7, not shown).
