Abstract

1,256,109. Vehicle washing apparatus. A.V.W. EQUIPMENT Ltd. 4 Nov., 1970 [5 Nov., 1969], No. 54194/69. Heading B7J. In a vehicle cleaning appliance comprising a frame movable by a motor past a stationary vehicle, a sensing device is provided which constrols the motor so as to reverse the direction of movement of the frame when the entire length of the vehicle has been traversed, the sensing device, which is preferably a microswitch, being associated with at least one of a pair of opposed side cleaning members supported in the frame and each adapted to move outwardly from an inner position to clean a side of the vehicle during movement of the frame relative to the vehicle, the sensing device being actuated by the return of at least one of the side cleaning members to its inner position; a top cleaning member is also provided in the frame, mounted to be movable upwardly and downwardly to clean the upper and end surfaces of the vehicle. An "override" device may be provided, for example a timing switch, which renders the sensing device inoperative for an initial period of the cleaning operation.
