Abstract

1,255,665. Temporary rail joints; clamps. A. D. DEMOSS and F. V. LEAVITT. 27 May, 1969, No. 26791/69. Headings E1G and E2B. Abutting or fractured rail ends or portions 12, 14 are temporarily connected, prior to welding, by opposed clamping bars 24 engaged by blocks 56, 52 slidably mounted in a composite welded clamping member 32- 34-38-26-62 passing under the rail, the blocks being drawn together by a bolt 60. The bars 24 are shaped as shown to wedge between the base and head of the rails. The blocks 52, 56 have depending T-heads slidable along short respective slots, Fig. 4 (not shown), in the top plate 38 of the clamping member, the slots being T-shaped in plan to allow removal of the blocks.
