Abstract
1,255,403. Ground anchors. UNIVERSAL ANCHORAGE (HOLDINGS) Ltd. 29 July, 1970 [9 May, 1969], No. 23866/69. Heading E1B. A ground anchor comprises an outer tubular body 2, an inner tubular body 3 slidable relative thereto and a plurality of longitudinally and angularly displaced pairs 12, 13 of T section tines 15 pivotally mounted on the outer tube by pins 17 fixed to the outer tube arid passing through the webs 16 of the tines. The anchor is placed in a drilled hole and the outer tube pulled up relative to the inner tube to move the pin 17 from position A to position B by the action of an hydraulic ram 30 between pressure plates 31 and 32. The plate 31 which is fixed to the inner member 3 being held stationary and the plate 32 which is connected to the outer tubular member by flexible tension members 33 left free to move. The pressure plates 31 and 32 are then uncoupled and grout pumped down the centre of the inner tubular member and passes out through tine mounting slots 20, (21) in the inner member and slots 18 of the outer body to fill the hole and through a hole in a nose cone on the tubular body. The grout may flow out of opening 11 to fill the bore to any desired level, a collar may be provided on the upper portion of the tube to seal the bore hole so that the grout may be pressurized. The anchor may have four pairs of tines. The tines may be of curved flange instead of straight flange T section. The tension members may be omitted and the outer tubular member continued to the first pressure plate. A screw jack may replace the piston and cylinder. The pressure plate 31 may be allowed to move.
