Abstract

1,255,245. Friction clutches; ratchet clutches. SHANDON SOUTHERN INSTRUMENTS Ltd. 5 Aug., 1970 [7 Aug., 1969], No. 39584/69. Heading F2C. In a normally engaged helical spring clutch wherein a helical spring 6 frictionally engages driving and driven members 1, 3, an annular shoe 8 of low friction material is attached to the inside of the spring and engages a recess 1b between the adjacent edges of the driving and driven members 1, 3 to prevent wear at the ends of the driving and driven members. One end 6a of the spring 6 is connected to a control sleeve 7 which may be held by a brake to disengage the clutch. An additional shoe 10 of low friction material may be attached to the inside of the spring adjacent the end 6a.
