Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] Dispensing valve for pressurized fluid containers such as cans, syphon bottles or the like which allow their contents to be discharged by means of a pressure medium, in the form of a spray mist or jet of liquid e.g. by means of a gaspressurized bag in the container, or for dispensing aerated beverages from a bottle, consists of a diaphragm 3, Fig. 2, e.g. of elastic material such as a P.V.C. plastics. The diaphragm is restrained at its outer edge as by location. in a groove 5 in a housing 2, is apertured at 6 for the passage of the fluid to be dispensed, and has an upstanding sealing lip 9 which cooperates with a valve seat 10 preferably of soft elastic material. The seat 10 has a central opening which sealingly receives an actuating sleeve 7 which may, as shown, be integral with the diaphragm and carry an aerosol spray head 8. The closure for the container may be formed in various ways, as by a dished cover 11 secured to a beaded rim and which retains the housing 2 and seat 10. In other forms, the diaphragm may have a rolled edge 39, 40, Fig. 10, which fits inside the rim and has a flange extending part way or wholly over the top of the rim, as shown in the right and left sides respectively of the Figure. On the right side a layer of soft elastic material 36 sprayed on to the cap 2 forms a seal on the rim as well as forming the valve seat. The left side shows a separate seat 10 and a sealing ring 38. The device may be combined with a non-return filling valve 45 and a relief valve 46, constructed similarly to the dispensing valve 3. The spray head may have a metering groove 42 adjustable by turning the head 41. In applications to an aerated beverage bottle, the tear-off type bottle closure can be removed to dispense the whole contents, or left in place for partial dispensing and keeping the remainder fresh and sparkling. A dip tube may be replaced by a gas-pressurized bag for dispensing creams. The invention may be used with other types of bottle closures such as crown cork closures.
