Abstract
1,252,906. Thermonuclear apparatus. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 21 Jan., 1969 [22 May, 1968], No. 24546/68. Heading G6P. A thermonuclear plasma is confined so as to reduce the loss of plasma by a combination of a static magnetic mirror field and an R.F. field having a frequency slightly greater than the ion cyclotron frequency. Deuterium or tritium gas is contained in vessel 11. An R.F. field is generated by the cavity resonators 12, 13 and a static mirror field 19, by the coils 17, 18. Circularly polarized R.F. standing waves are set up at each end of the device.
