Abstract

A thermonuclear plasma is confined within a torus, 12, comprising an electrically insulating shell, 14, which supports the helical conductor 13a. R.F. power is coupled into 13a from a separate conductor wound adjacent to part of 13a. The helix has a distributed inductance and capacitance such that at the resonant frequency modes, the electromagnetic field is localized near the helix.
