1,252,750. Yeast &c. INGENIEURTECHNISCHES ZENTRALBURO MINERALOLE UND ORGANISCHE GRUNDSTOFFE. VEB. Dec.17, 1968, No.59951/68. Heading C6F. A fermentation product obtained by cultivation of micro-organisms, e.g. yeast of the genus Candida, on a mixture of saturated straight chain and branched chain hydrocarbons in an aqueous nutrient medium, is separated centrifugally, in the absence of a wetting agent, from a substantial proportion of accompanying residual oil (hydrocarbon material from which the straightchain hydrocarbons have been wholly or partially removed by the fermentation) and thereafter the centrifuged product is subjected either to evaporation, granulation, drying and extraction of residual oil or to freezing, removal of residual oil (mechanically or by solvent extraction) and dehydration (mechanically and/or thermally). Prior to the centrifugal separation, the fermentation product may be heated to a temperature of 50‹-90‹C. or cooled to between 5‹C. and -5‹C, or subjected to an electric alternating voltage or specified electromagnetic waves.
