Abstract

1488397 Preserved semen INSTITUT NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE AGRONOMIQUE 17 Dec 1974 [18 Dec 1973] 54409/74 Heading A2D In a method of treating boar semen wherein the sperm is collected, filtered, centrifuged and the centrifugation sediment diluted with at least one diluent, after centrifugation at ambient temperature, the centrifugation sediment is diluted with a first diluent containing no cryoprotector agent and then diluted with a second diluent containing a cryoprotector agent, the semen then being frozen in known manner. Glycerol is a suitable cryoprotector agent. After the addition of the first diluent, the temperature of the semen ispreferably lowered to 15‹C. The frozen semen may be in the form of pellets or straws. The frozen semen may be thawed by adding the frozen semen to a thawing product having a temperature of 35 to 60‹C e.g. seminal plasma used at a temperature of 37‹C.
