125,251. Robertson, R. May 6, 1918. Printing processes; embossing.-Relates to a method of printing fabrics with designs having the appearance of being woven into the fabric. The design is impressed on to the fabric by one or more ordinary intaglio printing-rollers with or without colour, in an ordinary calico-printing machine, and the fabric is then passed over the surface of an ordinary rubbing roller, which consists of a roller engraved with fine lines or cross lines and set out of contact with the impression bowl and driven at a different surface speed from that of the material. The intaglio roller leaves a fa.int impression of the design on the fabric by flattening the surface in some parts more than in others so that, in the subsequent rubbing, the colour is taken up in varying amounts at different parts of the surface of the fabric, and the pattern shows up in a more or less shadowy form.
