Abstract

1,251,472. x-Tocopherylquinone. SOC. D'ALIMENTATION ET DE RECHERCHES BIOLOGIQUES. 24 April, 1970 [24 April, 1969], No. 19813/70. Heading C2V. α-Tocopherylquinone is obtained by gradually adding a solution of x-toeopherol in a watermiscible solvent to a solution of a mild oxidizing agent in the same or another water-miscible solvent miscible with the first solvent, whilst stirring at room temperature, and when the reaction is complete diluting with excess water and extracting the x-toeopherylquinone with a solvent which is not miscible with water and in which the product has a higher solubility than in the solvents for the reactants. In examples, the oxidizing agent is ferric nitrate, the reaction solvents are ethyl alcohol and methyl alcohol and the product is extracted with ethyl ether and with methylene chloride.
