Abstract

1,251,276. Nut runners. CHICAGO PNEUMATIC TOOL CO. 15 Sept., 1969 [19 Nov., 1968], No. 45281/69. Heading B3N. A two speed pneumatically operated nut runner comprises a sliding vane main motor 11 connected to a socket 21 by a two stage reduction gearing 15, and a sliding vane auxiliary motor 12 connected to the main motor by a one way overrunning clutch 26. Air is concurrently supplied to the motors at 27, 28. In operation, with clutch 26 being overrun, motor 11 tightens the workpiece until a predetermined torque is reached, whereupon due to the reduction of speed of motor 11 to the speed of motor 12, the latter drives the former at low speed and high torque until a final predetermined torque is reached. The motors then stall.
