In a belt tensioning means, a pulley is mounted upon a spindle 16 carried eccentric to the axis of a circular plate 15 which is adjustable angularly with respect to a base structure 11, which is linearly adjustable. The plate 15 is secured to the base structure 11 by a central bolt 20 and a bolt 22 located in an arcuate slot 21. Bolts 19 located in linear slots 18 secure the base structure 11 to a supporting structure 12. Alternatively, a single slot may be provided for each bolt 18, and the slots may be of arcuate form.
