Abstract
1,250,527. Heat exchangers. V. G. ILIN. 23 Oct., 1968, No. 50241/68. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger for condensing vapour comprises a plurality of vertically stacked blocks 1, 1a 1b, 1c of a graphite-based material each having vertical and horizontal channels 2, 3 for the passage respectively of vapour and cooling agent. The upper part of each block has a series of inclined grooves 12 to receive condensate formed in the vertical channels 2 of the preceding block and to pass it into a collecting groove 13 from whence it is discharged downwardly through additional vertical channels 14 into the next lower block. The vertical channels 2 of e.g. block 1 are offset relative to the vertical channels 2 of block 1a which in turn are offset relative to those of block 1b (see Fig. 2, not shown). Vapour to be condensed enters the heat exchanger at 4 and the condensate formed leaves at 5. The cooling agent enters at 6 and leaves at 7, a series of cover members 10 and associated partitions 11 defining the flow path for the cooling agent between adjacent heat exchange blocks 1c, 1b etc.
