Abstract
1,250,471. Recreational device. J. KURAN. 4 Dec., 1968 [1 Jan., 1968; 18 Sept., 1968], Nos. 171/68 and 44447/68. Heading A6M. A recreational device comprises a body member 10 supported at its front end by pivoted leg means 12, the body being further supported by wheel means 20 spaced rearwardly from the leg means. A stop 16 permits only limited rearward pivotal movement of the leg means and the support 28 permits only limited pivotal movement of the body member about the wheel means. In one embodiment of the invention (Fig. 1) the wheel means and support 28 are fixed in position as shown in the diagram, the front leg means being urged to move forwards by the spring 18 about its pivot 14 which is forward of the position of contact of the leg with the ground. Forward motion is achieved by the rider firstly leaning backward causing the body to pivot about wheel 22 and rest on the tail support, the spring biassing the leg forwards as it is lifted from the ground, the rider, then leans forward, the leg means comes once again in contact with the ground and the body member continues to move forward until the leg comes into contact with stop 16. Thus a net forward movement of the body is brought about. A pawl and ratchet machanism is attached to the wheel means in order to allow only forward movement of the wheel. In another embodiment of the invention (Fig. 3), the tail support 28 is pivoted at a position 31 vertically above wheel 22 and is urged forward into contact with the ground by spring 33. In this case as the rider leans backward, pivoting the body about the wheel means, the tail support pivots about point 31, until it comes into contact with stop 32 in doing so pushing the body forward. Then as the rider leans forward in order to bring the front legs back into contact with the ground, the weight is taken off support 28 which moves back to its original position under the influence of the spring. Also, in this embodiment, the front portion 10a of the body can pivot at 34 relative to the rear portion 10b of the body for steering.
