This invention relates to a toy and more particularly to a toy that can be ridden by a child and which will move across the fioor or other supporting surface.

The principal object of the invention is the provision of a riding toy taking the form of a horse arranged to tilt 1lla aiigk and forth and move forwardly when ridden by a c 1 A further object of the invention is the provision of a riding toy taking the form of an animal such as a horse in which the legs are arranged so that the toy can be tilted to elevate the front legs from the floor and permit them to be moved forwardly.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a riding toy taking the form of an animal in which the rear legs are positioned forwardly in under the balance point of the toy so that it may be tilted backwardly and forwardly relatively easy.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a riding toy taking the form of an animal such as a horse in which the tail comprises a structural member for supporting the toy in tilted relation when the front legs are elevated.

The riding toy disclosed herein comprises an improvement in the art relating to toys on which a child can ride and particularly in that the toy takes the form of an animal such as a horse with the legs and tail arranged so that the toy may be tilted backwardly and forwardly to alternately rest on the front legs and back legs or the back legs and the tail. The back legs are provided with wheels so that when the front and back legs are supporting the toy movement of a handle connected with the front legs will move the body of the horse forwardly rolling on the wheels on the back legs whereupon the child may lean backward causing the toy to tilt back pivoting on the wheels on the rear legs and resting on the tail.

The front legs may then be moved forward to complete the cycle and repetition of the cycle will move the toy across the floor.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being the intention to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for purposes of the disclosure, which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side view of the riding toy with broken lines showing a child seated thereon and showing an alternate position of the front legs and handle.

Figure 4 is a side view of the toy in tilted position.

Figure 5 is a side view of the toy in a moving position.

By referring to the drawings and Figures 1, 2 and 3 in particular it will be seen that the toy comprises a body having spaced rear legs 11 and a rigid tail 12. The rear legs 11 are positioned forwardly so that the States atent O hooves 13 are substantially beneath the middle portion of the body 10. An axle 14 is positioned through the hooves 13 and carries ground engaging wheels 15. The body 10 has a portion thereof shaped like a saddle 16 and has a head portion 17 forwardly thereof including reins 18 leading from the head portion to a point adjacent the saddle 16. Stirrups 19 are also provided and the body portion 10 has a slot like opening vertically therethrough between the head 17 and the saddle 16 in which a unitary structure comprises front legs 20 and an upwardly extending handle 21 are positioned and pivotly secured as by a pivot pin 22. The front legs 20 are thus continuations of the handle 21 and are thereby capable of being moved forwardly and backwardly as shown in the solid and broken lines in Figure l as by a child seated in the saddle 16 and holding the handle 21.

It will be observed that the childs body as shown in broken lines in Figure 1 is directly above the axle 14 and by referring to Figure 4 it will be seen that the body 10 will tip backwardly as the child leans backwardly to the position shown in Figure 4 where it is supported on the wheels 15 and the tail 12. As the child then moves the handle 21 backwardly to the position shown in Figure 4 and then leans forwardly the toy will return to the position shown in solid lines in Figure 1. If the child will then push forwardly on the handle 21 the toy will move forwardly as shown in Figure 5 rolling on the wheels 15 while the front legs 20 act as a lever pulling the toy along. The child may then lean backwardly again to again tilt the toy whereupon the front legs 20 may again be moved to forward position and the action repeated. Alternately, the child may simply tilt the toy forwardly and backwardly and in a motion simulating riding a horse.

It will thus be seen that a novel riding toy has been disclosed which meets the several objects of the invention and having thus described my invention what I claim is:

1. A riding toy comprising a body member in the form of an animal such as a horse, having rear legs positioned with the hooves thereof substantially under the middle portion of said body member, ground engaging wheels secured to said hooves, a rigid tail on said body member extending downwardly therefrom and terminating above the horizontal plane of said wheels and spaced rearwardly with respect thereto comprising a structure capable of supporting said toy and a child thereon when said toy is tilted, a vertical slot like opening formed longitudinally in the said body member inwardly from the head thereof, an integral front leg and handle structure positioned vertically in said slot like opening, a pivot pin positioned through said integral structure and engaging said body, a seat on said body substantially in the middle portion thereof.

2. The riding toy set forth in claim 1 and wherein the seat is on a vertical line above said hooves.

3. The riding toy set forth in claim 1 and wherein said integral front leg and handle structure is bifurcated.

4. The riding toy set forth in claim 1 and wherein said pivot pin is positioned through the lowermost portion of said body member.
