A load balancer assembly comprises a counterweighted parallel linkage 50, 54, 55, 65 wherein the load carrying arm 54 of the linkage includes an offset portion 81 to facilitate placing of a load 73, a force applying means being associated with the linkage arm 55 to counterbalance any force tending to cause movement of the arm 54 due to the presence of the offset portion thereof. The assembly which is mounted between a pair of plates 24, is supported on arms 15 depending from an overhead trolley 11, the arm 50 being pivoted at 51 to the arms 15 and carrying a counterweight 52, the plates 24 being pivoted at 23 to a fluid ram 21 pivotally connected to the arms 15. Slots 34, 59 in the plates 24 engage rollers 30, 32 on the arms 15, and rollers 58 on the linkage arms 55, 65, whereby the position of the parallelogram linkage is controlled by movement of the ram 21. A cable extending longitudinally from its connection with the arm 55, to a spring drum mounted on one of the plates 24, applies a force to the linkage to balance the offset loading effect of the arm 54.
