Abstract
1,249,689. Galvanic cell. HELLESENS A/S. 17 April, 1969 [18 April, 1968], No. 19624/69. Heading H1B. An alkaline galvanic cell which comprises an outer metal can 1, the closed end section 2 of which forms one contact point, and which is separated by insulation 10 from an oppositely facing inner metal can 7, the end section 8 of which forms the other contact point, i.e. characterized in that a means is provided for venting the space between the cans to the surroundings in that the insulating seal 11 which is compressed between the supporting surface of the outer can and a bent section of the edge of the inner can is of thin or hard material such as hard rubber or plastics, and in that the seal 12 at the end section of the inner can is of thicker and/or softer material. In the embodiment shown the inner can 7 extends substantially throughout the length of the outer can 1 and has a ventilating hole 14 in the outer can preferably near the seal at the end section of the inner can, the hole preferably being covered by a layer of resilient plastic material such as bitumen. The anode 3 may be a zinc bar and is surrounded by an absorbing tube 4 saturated with alkaline electrolyte, separated from cathode 5 by separator layer 6. The cathode may consist of silver oxide, mercuric oxide or manganic dioxide. The insulation between the inner and outer can may be a cardboard tube 10. In another embodiment the inner metal can is a bowl-shaped lid and extends only over a small part of the length of the outer metal can, and the insulating seal at the edge of the lid rests on a supporting member which is attached to the inner wall of the outer metal can near its open end. The seal at the end section of the inner can may have thinned, axially yielding sections for ventilation.
