Abstract

1,249,521. Mixing apparatus. B. SILVER and S. J. SILVER. 10 April, 1970 [15 April, 1969], No. 19228/69. Heading B1C. [Also in Division F2] Mixing apparatus has a stirrer 14 driven by a motor 1 through drive shaft. 3 which is supported in a magnetic bearing 10, 11 to reduce abrasion when used to mix abrasive materials. The shaft is connected to the motor by a universal joint 4, and the bearing consists of an annular permanent magnet 11 fixed to a frame 8. The magnets each have one pole on their inner periphery and the other pole on their outer periphery, and are arranged facing each other, as shown, or one inside the other.
