Abstract

1,249,112. Chucks. LESLIE HARTRIDGE Ltd. 18 Dec., 1968 [3 Nov., 1967], No. 50214/67. Heading B3B. A centrifugal chuck copmrises driving elements 34 movable along a groove 31 by centrifugal forces acting on integral weights 36 to engage driving faces 35 with flats on a tool shank. Springs hold the faces 35 apart when the chuck is at rest. The end of the tool shank may be centralized by providing a conical centre hole in the end of a drive shaft or in a part of the chuck housing. The driving faces of the driving elements may include abutments to limit their movement towards each other so that flats on the tool shank are only slidingly engaged. The number of driving elements may be more than two and equal the number of driving flats on a tool shank.
