A laundry product comprises agglomerated coloured granules of a detergent builder salt, a water-soluble agglomerating agent which is a polyvinyl alcohol or an alkali metal carboxyalkyl cellulose or a mixture thereof, and a dye or pigment. The alkali metal carboxyalkyl. cellulose is preferably sodium carboxymethylcellulose or sodium carboxyethylcellulose. The product preferably contains 0À3-10 parts by weight of the agglomerating agent and 60-85 parts by weight of the detergent builder salt. The detergent builder salt may be organic, such as an alkali metal salt of N.T.A. or E.D.T.A. or inorganic such as an alkali metal polyphosphate, borate or silicate. Numerous dyes and pigments are specified, those of a blue or purpleblue colour, e.g. ultramarine, being preferred. Fluorescing colouring agents may also be used. Small amounts of plasticizers such as propylene glycol or glycerin may be added. The agglomerates may be formed by contacting the builder salt with a solution of the agglomerating agent and which contains a dye or pigment and agitating to form agglomerates. This may be carried out in a rotary drum, on a Dravo pan, or in a twin-shell blender. The product may be suitably dried by passing a stream of air over the product during or following agitation. At least 85% by weight of the agglomerated particles formed in such a way have a particle size within the range 0À25-2À5 mm. The agglomerated laundry product may be postadded to spray dried detergent components which may comprise conventional anionic, nonionic and cationic surface-active agents, of which numerous examples are specified, to produce a finished detergent. Typically, the agglomerated laundry product is mixed with the remaining detergent components in an amount of 1-65 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the finished detergent. Preferably, coloured agglomerates comprise up to 8 parts by weight per 100 parts of the finished detergent. The surface-active agent, which is preferably anionic, is typically present in an amount 2-95% by weight of the detergent, preferably 2-15% by weight in pre-soak detergents and 7-35% by weight in washing detergents. The detergent components may also include additional builder salts and the builder salt in the finished detergent composition is generally in the range 20-90% by weight, preferably 30- 90% by weight in pre-soak detergents and 20-65% by weight in washing detergents. The detergent composition may also contain brighteners, perfumes, preservatives and also sodium sulphate.
