A valve for controlling liquids comprises a diaphragm 3 having an outlet 4 controlled by an armature 5 mounted in a chamber into which inlet liquid can flow through a pressure-equalizing aperture 8, the diaphragm having an edge 10 gripped between a magnet 7 and housing 11 and a cylindrical wall portion 12 in contact with a support ring 13. The armature 5 is guided by grooves 14 and is urged by a spring 9 against a reinforcing plate 16.
